Site Investigation

SMA’s senior leadership have conducted hundreds of subsurface investigations utilizing hollow stem augers, roto-sonic drilling, direct push (e.g Geoprobe®), membrane interface probes (MIP), cone penetration testing to identify contaminant source areas and then delineate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum, chlorinated solvents, PCBs, and metal impacts in soil, soil gas, and groundwater.

The staff at SMA have successfully utilized a variety of sampling methodologies across multiple Sites, including:

  • Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF), Hydraulic Profiling Tool (HPT), Membrane
Interface Probe (MIP) and direct push technologies
  • Monitoring well installation and sampling
  • Low flow groundwater sampling
  • PFAS/POFA soil and groundwater sampling
  • Hydasleeve® and passive groundwater sampling
  • Soil, sub-slab, sewer, and landfill gas sampling
  • NPDES and sanitary sewer discharge sampling
  • Petroleum sampling for forensic analysis
  • Slug / pump testing
  • Borehole dilution testing
